Where beginners start: lines, then light

1 min read 4 photos

Most people who walk in say "I can't even draw a straight line." That's fine. Here we start with a ruler.

Two-point perspective is just a horizon line, two dots and a lot of careful lines. Once that clicks, boxes, rooms and streets stop looking flat.

Then comes light. An apple in charcoal is all about where the light hits and where the shadow falls, smudged in with fingers and tissue.

The vase still life puts it together: a few simple shapes, a reference print on the table, and slowly building up the darks.

And then, when it feels right, colour. The mountains are still on the easel, the sky and peaks done, the fields warming up in orange at the bottom.
